ASTM A563 Nuts come under the specification for carbon steel and alloy steel nuts that are intended for general, mechanical and structural applications. Viha Steel & Forging is a manufacturer of the different grades of nuts such as the astm a563 dh heavy hex nuts. The hex nuts are easy to install with tools and therefore it is one of the most commonly used type of nuts.
There are different grades as A, B, C, D, DH, C3 and DH3. The astm a563 hex nuts can come in any of these grades. The different grades specify the carbon steel, weathering steel, quenched and tempered steel, hex and heavy hex types of material and products. Different grades of the astm a563 square nuts also come with different tensile strengths. The sizes range from ¼ inches to 4 inches. The hex nuts range up to 1 ½ inches and the heavy hex nuts range up to 4 inches. The nuts astm a563 grade a have minimum tensile strength up to 90ksi as plain.
When galvanized, the proof load is 68ksi. The hardness of this grade of nuts ranges from 116 to 302 HBN. The DH3 grade has tensile strength up to 175ksi and hardness ranging from 248 to 352 HBN. The astm a563 nuts specifications cover the different mechanical, chemical properties with heat treatments. The chemical composition of these nuts has carbon, manganese, phosphors and sulfur in the composition. The proportions range differently. The A563 Grade A Nut has 0.55% carbon, 0.12% phosphors and 0.15% sulfur. As a leading manufacturer and supplier, we produce the nuts in all types. Please feel free to inquire us on your needs on the different types of nuts such as the ASTM A563m and the respective prices.

What is ASTM A563 Grade A? ›Governing StandardsGrade A
ASTM A563. Covers the chemical and mechanical requirements for eight grades of carbon and alloy steel nuts for general structural and mechanical uses on bolts, studs, and other externally threaded parts. ASME B18.2.2.
Grade DH nuts are heavy hex nuts made from medium carbon steel that have been heat treated. Designed and recommended to secure F3125 A490 structural bolts in assemblies, these nuts are often marked by the letters “DH”, although they are not required to be marked unless specified by the purchaser.
What is the difference between 2H and DH nuts? ›Grade 2HM hex nuts are manufactured in a similar way, yet deliver lower levels of proof load stress and hardness. Often 2H nuts can be substituted for 2HM, although the reverse may not be true. Grade DH hex nuts are formed from medium carbon steel materials and need to be heat treated and quenched.
What is the difference between A194 and A563? ›ASTM A563 is the most commonly referenced ASTM specification for carbon and alloy steel nuts. It includes 8 grades and covers sizes from 1/4" to 4". ASTM A194 covers carbon and alloy steel nuts that are intended for use in high pressure and/or high temperature applications.
What nuts go with A325 bolts? ›The recommended grade of nut for an ASTM A325 structural bolt is ASTM A563 Grade D, DH, or C. ASTM A194 2H is also an acceptable substitute. These ASTM grades are all high strength and go through a heat treating process required to develop their mechanical characteristics.
What is a grade A hex nut? ›Grade A nuts are used with low carbon steel heavy hex bolts. Grade 5 are used with medium carbon cap screws and bolts. Grade C nuts are recommended to be used with A325 structural bolts. Grade 2H nuts are recommended for use in high pressure and high temperature service.
What does A194 mean? ›ASTM A194 Grade 2HM is a standard material specification for high tensile nuts and other internally threaded fasteners, made from carbon steel. Grade 2HM nuts can be produced by means of hot forging, cold forging or machining from heat treated bar stock.
What is a bolt grade? ›The grade of a bolt determines the maximum amount of stress (tensile strength) that the bolt can handle. Tensile strength is the amount of pull the bolt can withstand before breaking. The method used for tightening the bolt is also dependent upon the grade of the bolt.
What does DH stand for with nut? ›Extreme-Strength Steel Extra-Wide Hex. Nuts for Structural Applications—Grade DH. These nuts are designed to secure ASTM A325 bolts in structural joints. Also known as heavy hex nuts, they are about 10% wider and taller than standard hex nuts.
Is A563 structural? ›
The ASTM A563 specification covers carbon and alloy steel nuts for general structural and mechanical uses on bolts, studs, and other externally threaded parts.
What is a structural nut? ›Structural Nuts are medium carbon steel, heat treated and hardened with a metric class of 8. Structural Nuts are for use with Structural Bolts and are designed for steel-to-steel structural connections such as buildings and bridge construction.
How are hex nuts marked for strength? ›Nuts fabricated by cutting from hex bar stock shall be grade marked with notches at the hexagon corners, one notch at each comer for Grade 5, two notches at each corner for Grade 8. Grade 2 nuts are not required to be marked for grade identification.
What grade is a 2H nut? ›A194 2H nuts are a common high strength nut used with many different bolt grades, including A193 Grade B7, A325, A490, F1554 Grade 105 and others. Occasionally Portland Bolt will be asked to provide A194 Grade 2HM nuts, most often with A193 Grade B7M.
What is 2H material? ›ASTM A194 Grade 2H is a standard material specification for high tensile nuts and other internally threaded fasteners, made from carbon steel. Grade 2H nuts can be produced by means of hot forging, cold forging or machining from heat treated bar stock.
What is the difference between A307 and A325? ›Compared to A307 bolts, A325 are generally higher strength. As such, they are used for different applications. The ultimate tensile strength of A325 bolts is 120 ksi, double that of an A307 A grade bolt.
What replaced ASTM A325? ›Note: In 2016, ASTM A325 was officially withdrawn and replaced by ASTM F3125, in which A325 now becomes a grade under the F3125 specification. The F3125 specification is a consolidation and replacement of six ASTM standards, including; A325, A325M, A490, A490M, F1852, and F2280.
What is the difference between A325 and Grade 8 bolts? ›A325 bolts are typically manufactured from a medium carbon steel (although they can be made from an alloy) while SAE grade 8 bolts are made from a medium carbon alloy steel. Grade 8 bolts are significantly stronger than an A325. An ASTM specification with similar strength properties to grade 8 is ASTM A490.
What is ASTM A194? ›The ASTM A194 specification covers a variety of carbon, alloy, and martensitic stainless steel nuts in the size range 1⁄4 through 4 in. and metric M6 through M100 nominal. ASTM A194 also covers austenitic stainless steel nuts in the size range 1⁄4 in. and M6 nominal and above.
What is A194 Grade 2H? ›ASTM A194 Grade 2H is a standard material specification for high tensile nuts and other internally threaded fasteners, made from carbon steel. Grade 2H nuts can be produced by means of hot forging, cold forging or machining from heat treated bar stock.
What grade is a A325 bolt? ›
The A325 bolt strength, or SAE grade 5 bolt strength, is usually used for structural bolting projects.
What is the difference between a hex nut and a heavy hex nut? ›What is the difference between a standard hex nut and a heavy hex nut? A standard hex nut, also referred to as a finished hex nut, has a smaller width across the flats and corners compared to a heavy hex nut, and a heavy hex nut is slightly thicker than a standard hex nut of the same nominal size.
Is grade A the same as Grade 5? ›Grade A is a low tensile nut and is used with grade 2 bolts; grade B is used with a Grade 5 bolt and grade C with a Grade 5 bolt.
What does ASTM A193 mean? ›ASTM A193 defines both SI (Metric) and inch-pound units. Grade B7 is a heat-treated chromium-molybdenum low-alloy steel with minimum tensile strength requirement of 125 ksi (860 Mpa), yield 105 ksi (720 Mpa), and maximum hardness of 35HRC.
